Phoblographer Award

35-150mm F/2-2.8 Di III VXD (Model A058) and 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (model B070) honored by the popular international review website

November 26, 2021, Commack, NY – Tamron announces that two of its newest lenses have been selected to receive The Phoblographer’s 2021 Editor’s Choice Awards. The 35-150mm F/2-2.8 Di III VXD and 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD both take home honors in this year’s Reviews Period for The Phoblographer. “We’re very impressed with what Tamron has done for the industry in the past few years. Customer concerns such as build quality, autofocus speed, and weight are all genuinely real. It’s a really easy decision to make for lots of photographers,” stated Editor-In-Chief Chris Gampat.

“The Best!”

“An Innovative Standard.”

Reviews Writer Brittany Smith stated, “We review gear as if we were the ones potentially buying them. If something isn’t quite right, we have to address it. And if they’re impressive, we sing rightful praises. Integrity is at the core of our process. That transparency leads to authentic reviews that our viewers can trust when it comes to investing in gear.”

Excerpts from the Review

“Tamron has cranked up the innovation game really high this time around. The Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 Di III VXD does so much that I’m sure other brands will need to study it.” The review continues, “Tamron is killing it. This is the world’s only 35-150mm that starts at f2 and ends at f2.8. It’s weather-sealed, and so too is the USB port built into it for updating the firmware. If you’re a Sony shooter, this could honestly be the only lens you need in your camera bag. This statement is coming from a long-time ‘prime lens only’ photographer. Tamron is seriously making me think differently here.” And in the review conclusion, the editor states, “Tamron absolutely deserves the Editor’s Choice award. The Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 Di III VXD is just an obvious choice here all around. The autofocus is fantastic, and that’s thanks to the fact that Sony owns part of Tamron. The image quality is unique enough while still also being more than satisfactory. There’s solid weather sealing, and Tamron even did the brave thing of putting a USB port on the lens. It feels good in the hands. It’s built solidly. It starts at f2 and ends at f2.8. But most importantly, it’s actually got a bunch of useful focal lengths. I can go from shooting a party or event to doing headshots with a single lens.”

Excerpts from the Review

“I’m inclined to call it the best lens Tamron or anyone has made for APS-C cameras. Inspired by their old 28-105mm f2.8 for DSLRs, this lens takes things further. In fact, I’d argue that it’s the only lens you need for APS-C Sony E mount cameras.” The editor continues, “The Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is a fantastic lens overall. You’re getting old-school Sony image quality, lens character, weather sealing, fast autofocus, and a lightweight body. How could you complain? My absolute favorite thing about this lens is the nostalgic feel I get working with it. The look of the images delivers me back to the Sony NEX days. And that puts me back on the streets of Manhattan enjoying the image quality I get. In these troubling times, it’s the best you can ask for.”
