Studio and Flash Gear for the Neverending Lockdown

The past year and a half has presented some struggles for many photographers. However, one of the best things to come from this is the extra time we have to learn and hone our crafts. It’s also allowed many of us to get out of our comfort zones. This is especially true for studio photographers and those learning flash.

Studio Photographers

I had put together a series on the Metz BL studio strobes that has been one of our most-watched playlists. This series isn’t just for owners of Metz studio kits – there’s great info for all beginner and intermediate studio photographers. Learn how to setup a studio kit. One of the most watched videos is about troubleshooting. Watch the series here:

Our friends at Amplis Foto are running some super special promos on the Metz SL200 and TL300/TL600 kits! The SL200 is a minor update to the BL kits I used in the video – they have an integrated trigger. These are a nice addition to a 400ws studio kit – they’re perfect for background and accent lighting.

The TL kits are a big step up from BL and any other entry level kit. These lights are fan-cooled with metal housings, larger softboxes and heavy-duty light stands. If you’re ready for more powerful lights or more robust lights – the TL kits are the way to go.

All Metz kits use a Bowens-type S-mount – chances are they’ll work with your existing softboxes and reflectors from other brands. They also have a 1/8” sync port if you want to plug in your triggers and have a “SYNC” optical slave mode to trigger from other flashes wirelessly.

Speedlight Photographers

There are a lot of photographers learning speedlights and flash who have little interest in studio strobes. Speedlights are more portable and less expensive than strobes. There are hundreds of inexpensive modifiers for speedlights. If you use our new Frio products, you can mount a speedlight practically anywhere!

We’ve got some great content for you, as well. Here is a playlist of videos specifically for speedlight photographers:

Our friends at Amplis Foto have got some killer special pricing on top quality Metz speedlights. There are limited numbers of these speedlights available. In many cases, Metz flashes surpassed the capabilities and quality of the OEM flashes, especially the mighty 64 AF-1. One of my most-watched videos is on the Metz 64 AF-1:

Mecablitz M400 and M360 are ideal companions for mirrorless camera owners. Powerful and compact, these speedlights offer more features than competitive flashes at a great price point.

If you have a photographer on your Christmas list, or are a photographer making your own list, you’ll want to take advantage of the great Metz deals. These special prices are in effect until everything is gone. Grab what you need now!
