Joan Michel #MyFilmStory – Film Photography, A Visual Language

The 5th video in the ILFORD Photo #MyFilmStory series comes from New Jersey based Filipina-American photographer and filmmaker Joan Michel.

Joan captures narratives inspired by personal experiences that revolve around mental health, death, and trauma that people have experienced.

She aspires to share her knowledge with others, create full-length features and be noticed as a female, non-white director in the industry. She’s dedicated to creating art that is authentic no matter what the subject is.

In this video Joan shoots with a Mamiya RZ67 medium format film camera and a variety of ILFORD black and white film including: ILFORD HP5 plus 35mm, ILFORD FP4 plus 120 film, and ILFORD XP2 Super.
