VANCOUVER, BC: WPC Team Canada helped send delegate, Holly-Lynn Latimour, to Singapore to represent herself and Team Canada the World Photographic Cup.

Latimour attended the WPC awards ceremony, held at the Furama Riverfront Hotel in Singapore on March 17th while the rest of Team Canada watched virtually. Together we celebrated Canada’s achievements as Latimour walked on stage to collect a 10th place finish for her commercial image, and also represented Ron Gesser, who earned 6th place in the natural portrait category, as well Canada’s Best of Nation winner, Jo-Anne Oucharek.

Team Canada provides travel grants to encourage the Top 10 finishers to attend the World Photographic Cup ceremony in person. Co-Captains, Jillian Chateauneuf and Gerry David, were excited to have a Canadian representative in Singapore, “having someone attend in person added to the excitement of the event. The rest of the team felt like we were there as we shared in the celebration and cheered for our country and our photographers.”

Latimour, from Pefferlaw, ON, said her time in Singapore was incredible. “The people are very friendly and the sights were spectacular. I would definitely recommend Singapore as a travel destination and they did a fabulous job of hosting the World Photographic Cup.” Latimour’s commercial image of a soccer shoe placed 10th and showcases the thought that goes into making product imagery interesting. “The experience of being 10th in the world and meeting my fellow photographers was amazing. The
camaraderie and support of the international attendees was very touching and I am glad that I experienced the ceremony in person. Being a part of Team Canada was such an honour and I was so proud to be able to represent my country on the world stage,” said Latimour.

Canada’s other finalist was Ron Gesser of Westmount, QC, who travels to connect with cultures around the world. His image of an elderly woman from the Kutia Kondh ethnic group in central India placed 6th in the Portrait-Natural Category. “It has been a real honor to participate and represent WPC Team Canada 2023 in this year’s World Photographic Cup.” Ron said, “The recognition I have received from the media regarding my achievement is way beyond anything I could have imagined, and I want to thank the team co-captains, curators and my fellow teammates for their encouragement and support.”

In addition, Canada also celebrated our highest scoring image from Jo-Anne Oucharek, of Cochrane, AB. Her stunning Wildlife image showcases a fishing brown bear, mouth wide open, about to make the catch. The team camaraderie and support were what stood out in Oucharek’s mind. “It’s an amazing opportunity for a photographer to be part of a team,” she said.

WPC Team Canada submitted 24 images to represent Canada at the 2023 World Photographic Cup. Curating for the 2024 team starts this summer and all Canadians are encouraged to visit the website and enter their photography for a chance to be on next year’s team.
