Level Up Your Backdrops: My Real-World Take on the Easiframe System

Easiframe

When I first heard about the Easiframe curved backdrop system, I assumed it was just another gimmicky and difficult background system. After putting it through its paces, it’s earned a permanent spot in my studio (and travel kit). Built by Easiframe (check out their site at www.easiframe.ca), this system is cleverly engineered, surprisingly portable and completely configurable – exactly what you want when you’re working with clients who demand high production value and don’t want to wait an eternity for setup.

Setting It Up

The base curved Easiframe is pretty smart: the aluminium structure assembles in minutes using two light stands and the supplied Allen keys, and it’s labelled so you don’t have to guess which joint goes where. The first couple of times I setup my Easiframe, it took a bit longer but now I can almost set it up blindfolded. The standard frame is 2,500 mm wide × 1,945 mm deep × 2,145 mm high.

For those of you who like to remove stickers (who doesn’t like that clean look?), Easiframe is one of those products where you have to leave the stickers attached! Each joint is lettered “A”, “B”, “C”, etc. – you assemble the frame by joining “A” to “A”, “B” to “B”, etc. If you remove a sticker, grab a Sharpie and write that letter onto the frame! It’s possible to setup without knowing which joints to attach but it will take you a LOT longer to figure out.

Once assembled, the fabric “skin” stretches neatly into the frame using a silicone-edge sewn onto the “skin” into a channel in the frame – the tension is fantastic, meaning almost no wrinkles, so you’re saving precious time on retouching.

Going Taller: Height Extension Kit

One of the first upgrades I added was the Curved Height Conversion Kit, which shifts the frame to 2,645 mm high and shortens the floor to 1,445mm. This means I can use the same “skins” without buying a completely different system – a huge plus when clients want full-body shots (or I’m working with someone who’s too tall or is jumping), product setups or creative compositions that require more vertical real estate. One important note – if your “skin” has a Horizon Line (where a virtual wall meets a virtual floor), this Horizon Line will shift up. Not all backgrounds will look good shifted up. Single pattern or colour backgrounds will not have this concern. The conversion kit includes extra aluminium extrusion pieces and bracket joins, which integrate cleanly without compromising stability.

Going Bigger: Extra Large Extension Kit

For bigger sets, I can install the optional Curved Extra Large Extension Kit. With this kit, the frame expands to a whopping 3,000 mm wide × 2,500 mm deep × 2,500 mm high. That’s serious sweep room – perfect for group portraits, commercial shoots or when you want that cinematic “infinite” backdrop effect. The kit comes with 7 extension pieces and extra brackets to slot directly into the existing frame. You need oversized “Extra Large Skins” – the standard “skins” will not fit.

Skins

Skins are available in two sizes – standard and Extra Large. Solid colours (White, Black and Chroma Green) start at only $209 std/$449 XL. Easiframe.ca offers custom skins (from their library) or full custom skins (using your artwork) on sale starting at $659. These are shipped direct to your door at no extra cost!

On-Set Experience

Using this rig during recent studio-on-location sessions was a revelation. With the Height Conversion Kit, I didn’t worry about my clients being shot off background. Then when I installed the XL Extension Kit, I suddenly had room for wider, more expansive movement – exactly the kind of flexibility that helps creativity flow. The frame felt solid and is very lightweight. This made it very easy to move.

Changing “skins” is also a breeze: pull the “skin” out of the channels and fold it, swap in a different fabric “skin”, stretch it tight as you push the silicone into the channel and you’re ready to shoot. Since the “skins” are machine-washable (cold cycle) and wrinkle-resistant, cleanup is easy and they look perfect for every session.

Verdict

If you’re a photographer who needs a portable, modular, durable and studio-grade curved backdrop, the Easiframe system is a compelling pick. Photographers will appreciate how quickly Easiframe sets up and how portable it is. The base curved frame is already smart, but adding the Height Extension Kit and Extra Large Extension Kit unlocks a level of scale and flexibility that makes your background setup feel like a full production set – without the payroll. Plus, since everything packs down, you don’t need a warehouse to store it. There is also an optional case custom-sized and fit for your Easiframe.

Easiframe is kicking off the holidays early! Grab the system (and the upgrades you’ve been eyeing) on sale through November and December 2025. Dress your shoots for success while the price is dressed down!
